Do not vent without brains [Jan. 4th, 2008|11:34 am]
Preserving Thamiris' LJ and memory

Seriously people, you shouldn't go to boyan_fraser's journal and rant your anger if you want to get to the root of this. He is locking entries by the minute. Soon all evidence will be gone unless someone screen capped it.

LJ abuse team should be put on this, and we should have (it might be too late already) been capping all evidence. Now there might not be enough to shut that journal down.

bofoddity did get screencaps, and I mentioned that in the report I filed when I added my flag to boyan_fraser's journal.

that's really good!
I realize that LJ_abuse team may suck and not bother because we aren't her relatives, but still, our only chance in hell was to have caps and IP addy.

I'm still up for writing a message to all lj friends and writing communities that boyan_fraser has listed. From my experience it's very effective and will render that journal moot, with or without the help of LJ_abuse team.

Lots of discussion is happening here, complete with documented evidence through screencaps. Specifically of note is this, which includes a shared note from a person on the LJ Abuse team indicating that multiple people contacting the team will not make any difference unless the folks contacting them are Tham's family members rather than just friends. So, essentially, we're out of luck on that particular front, I'd say. Other options are still being hashed out, though.

I think that's a good idea, Seal. Maybe we'll ask people to volunteer to contact a small section of the Friend/Member lists, or to leave a comment saying whom they have contacted.

I think 3-4 ppl and a standardized message that you or someone else central to this community writes would be enough. BF doesn't seem to have more than 35 friends or so. Also, if we write some of the moderators of the writing communities he's in, that should be made by a moderator in here (and I do think that's a good thing to do, since what we are doing is a justified boycott of a plagiarist)

I am perfectly willing to take on half of his f-list, as long as a standardized message is cleared by you guys. (the message should include links to tham's journal as well as to this community)

Hi there. I've already de-friended BF. I know some of the others are holding in there just to keep tabs on things for the moment, since some stuff is still flocked, but not deleted or set to 'private'.

Also, at least two comms that I know of have banned BF and made a public announcement about it, those being scofield_sucre and pbslash.

That's good to know!
I hope when this comes to an end that BF will be banned from all writing communities.

Hi there, too.

As my friends *WANTON ERATO* & *DEADBEAT NYMPH*, I've de-friended the shameless impostor already, as I read the announcement on *PB_SLASH*.

And, I agree with *WANTON'S* & *PASSION_WRITER'S* comment above *B_F's* flist, published on this community :

"I WOULD BE MUCH obliged if my name is never mentioned in context WITH HIS NEVER AGAIN." -

I couldn't discribe it any better.

So, you mustn't contact me, to show me how foolish and credulous I was.
*Shakes head in disbelief*

Finally, like my friends I think, that this worse case has only one good thing:
We all discover now the ORIGINAL writings of *THAMARIS* and I think, if I had known her earlier, I would have appreciated her fine writings very well.

But, after all, thank you for watching, and posting this sad, but important case.

Not to seem overly picky, but my words were "ever again".

Sorry if this makes me seem like a snob, but I've a newfound appreciation for the written word because of all this. These are my words; please quote me correctly.

I posted several screencaps here:

There are also quite a few here:

In addition, I have two Word docs with screencaps in them that I would be happy to send if needed (aukestrel (at) gmail.com).

I have pointed out to LJ Abuse that, despite the fact we are not her family and thus have no rights under the DMCA, Tham still has an implicit copyright via her publication of her LiveJournal and its content - time and date stamped by LJ on LJ's own servers - that boyan_fraser is infringing upon. THis is "unlawful", which is a violation of LJ's TOS 1 and has nothing to do with the DMCA.

Secondly, by passing her content - published and timestamped in LJ and also published independently on the web at her site - off as his own, boyan_fraser is committing fraud. Again, this is unlawful and therefore in violation of LJ's TOS #1.

I'm hopeful that you can get somewhere with LJ Abuse; the violation is blatant and explicit. It shouldn't take a family member to define "plagiarism" as "unlawful copying" for LJ.

I'm glad to see all the screen caps, and I do hope lj_abuse team will listen to reason...unfortunately they can be a bit lazy, but keep us informed if they answer you.

I have about 15 entries screen capped. I was on my way out the door earlier and when I got back, everything was locked. Sorry I couldn't get more. Let me know if they would be of any use.

Perhaps talk to simplelyric? I'm sure she keeps tabs on what's capped and not, but still, thanks!

http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_lounge/641856.html#comments has collected a bunch of screen caps of the messages and such. I linked to the site when I put in a report on it.
